Phoenix / Saturday, 18 September 2010 Community Reinvestment Challenge project Preceding the CoreNet Global Summit Phoenix
After a hugely successful CRC: New Orleans, we are looking forward to working with the people of Phoenix. On Saturday, September 18, we will be doing two projects. The first collaboration is with Welcome to America Project which works with refugee families new to America. We will set up furniture, outfit their new homes with linens, kitchen items, etc., meet the family and hear their story. A "don't miss" opportunity!
The second event will also be Saturday morning and will occur at the Southwest Autism Research and Resource Center. SARRC is an internationally recognized organization which provides education and advocacy to people with autism and their families. They have a dorm for adults and are truly committed throughout their lives. They've launched a garden which will give the residents skills they can use in the community and which will soon be selling vegetables and plants to the neighborhood. We will have an opportunity to go on a tour, learn about SARRC's groundbreaking work, and then work with the kids in the garden. We'll then have a cookout for lunch and head back to the hotel. Young Leaders will be hosting a yoga for charity event Monday morning at the convention center before the sessions begin. The class will be taught by certified instructor Jessica Tanner, co-owner of Grayhawk Yoga in Scottsdale, AZ. All Summit attendees, regardless of age, are invited to do Sun Salutations for a cause. A $20 donation is required in advance. All of the funds raised will be donated to SARRC and Welcome to America Project. Monday evening, join the Young Leaders for a dine out event. The restaurant has generously agreed to give 20% of proceeds to our CRC organizations, so we need everyone's support to make this a great event!
